The Design: This drawing is so dear to me because it captures the energy of quill pen and ink, a medium I was big into in college. Originally part of a tour shirt design from 2012, that whole year's tour art was hand-drawn in ink on paper, scanned, and digitally manipulated. To me this process goes hand in hand with sampling and manipulating audio. Oldschoolers say that, given the option to edit a performance digitally, artists will automatically polish the work to a soulless death. I say the artist is responsible for retaining energy and imperfection in what they choose to edit or leave alone. I feel this drawing as raw energy, and I love it.
